Rising Tensions

Google has threatened to shut down google.cn?! In the name of freedom, the matter has inevitably turn into a feud between two big nations. Why should Google insist their stance through and provoke the governance of a foreign country? Let them do what they want.

Would a threat like this scare the Chinese government? They are stronger and bigger than you think. Here you are, using the veil of “goodwill”, once again (remember the Google Book Project saga), to mask universal monopolization behavior. Have you forgotten about intercultural partnership? Why do you want things your way?

The situation seemed to be a reflection of something close to my heart. Should I subdue to authorities or should I lead my own life? Why have I fight so hard to stay in that position? Is it time to move away?

No, it’s not really the choice of Google nor the Chinese government, is it? If any decisions were to be made, the Chinese voices should be heard. They should stand up to decide whether Google has impacted their daily lives, whether freedom matters to them, whether they want to raise another revolution for themselves.

I feel like I am speaking in parables despite the realness of such example. Whatever it is, I will respect the decision.

Sigh, time is ticking.
